"Camp Century" story. This was a US military project located in Greeland as an under-the-ice facility for doing SIGINT targeted at the USSR. They had a nuclear reactor powering the whole place; the reactor system was part of the old "SL-1" reactor project. (That's the project where three dim-wits working the night shift managed to cause an explosion killing them and leaving a radioactive hole plus body parts (later buried inside lead caskets) in Idaho. ) The camp was closed down eventually and the nuclear reactor taken back to the USA for decommissioning. Camp Century is still there albeit in ruins and buried under about 200 feet of ice and snow-melt.
