I don't think we had lines going across Russia to Europe or over Alaska.

There was a transatlantic cable in 1858 that lasted about a month.

There was not another successful cable until 1866, a year after Lincoln's execution.

Japan didn't get cables to china until 1871.

This is the shit we should be learning about in history classes. Instead, we get 1776, War of 1812, Slavery Bad, WWI and Hitler winning an election 12ish years later which lead to remember the 6 goyrillion and ending with our Civil Rights Act.

According to my 18 year old, that hasn't changed from my classes and that is 2 decades of shit happening.
