people often over look the fact that the icecaps have melted and reformed a few times over human history, we are currently nearing the glacial minimum, the sea is about as high as it ever gets(still got a fair bit to go thanks to Greenland but i digress), the majority of settlements would have been near the coast and near a big river, so most of humanities oldest cities will be under the water now
