I think I recall Alton Brown saying something along the lines of "Young palates tend to sugar for calories while older palates tend to bitter and savory for vitamins." I don't that there's any truth in it but I do know that gorging on sweets in my youth turned me off to sugar in later life. So there's that.

A persons affinity for sugar decreases once their bone's growth plates solidify. Personally I find it refreshing to read something about MSG that doesn't reek of quackery.
