Pneumonia is usually caused by a secondary infection that opportunistically takes hold while your immune system is weakened or busy dealing with something else.

Measles itself is not going to cause pneumonia directly, as with other less common complications, it will be caused by a secondary pathogen. The propensity for this to happen is increased by Vitamin deficiency (Vitamin A and D) or other immune system weakness.
