Altruism is fine and all; most people want to help other humans, one way or another. Donation is subject to that altruism. It's also a money sump for hospitals and big pharma because it is pure profit. That $200k kidney is free. Cuz you donated.

It's been like that in the UK for a few years now, I made sure when it was changing to document fully my with my drs , on my driving licence etc that I opted out of the whole ugly scene. If I remember correctly I had to register to not allow it to happen automatically.
