These studies always try to pin it back on the consumer and calories, but it's a lie. The same reason most people are fat is also the same reason many are sick: eating things that are not real food.
It's not the calorie, it's the quality of the calorie.
The body can't function properly without the right nutrients. When we eat shit food that has lab derived chemicals for nutrients we're missing a plethora of other important factors that natural foods contain. Our bodies were meant to run on natural sustenance, not chemical corporation warfare products intended to drain the masses of their money and health. When it is missing a nutrient for digesting particular "foods," that "food" gets stored as fat until sometime in the future you provide the right nutrients to deal with it.
