If you go watch surgeries, you’ll see blood many times squirts all over hell. Maybe you also don’t feel like eating blood of a stranger ... just a thought. There are lots of good reasons surgeons wear masks that have nothing to do with airborne viruses.

That's what the article is trying to point out, that they aren't worn for viral protection - they're worn for FOD protection.

They're not wearing them in the OR to prevent the transmission of airborne viruses. If that level of protection is required they're in full body suits. Whether it's to protect them or the patient.

Yeah, they're just wearing them to keep snot and spit out of your guts when they're cut open.

Bacterial infection maybe??? Orders of magnitude larger than a 140nm virus.

The article details the reasons.

Three reasons surgeons wear masks right off the top of my head

A. Because they are cutting people open and exposing their innards to pathogens

B. They work in a hospital that provides proper masks

C. These proper masks are properly sterilized after every use- usually worn for an hour or two tops before they are tossed in the wash bin.

Surgeons NEVER re-use surgical masks, nor do we ever wear cloth masks.
