True, but only for the natural variants. The spike protein of SARS version 2.0 is highly optimized for entering human cells, so almost all variations will render it useless. This is why we see almost no reinfections, just some hundred cases in immune-compromized people. Acquired immunity will last for many years before the virus can evade (until it gets some help in a bio lab).
