I kind of fast every day for decades because I only eat dinner. But I was listening to an athlete talking about how he fasts for 5 days when his sport is on the offseason.

Do you fast? If so why? How long? Do you only drink water? What do you believe this can do for you?

Also this guy was saying it seems harder for people who go through sugar withdrawal. I just avoid sugar anyway because I don’t like the taste of anything with a lot of sugar in it. But sugar gets in from vegetables, sauces, etc.

I loathe fasting bc when I do it, it is usually in preparation for an event or somewhere I know my shirt will come off like BB competition, beach, boating, or trail running. I do like the mental clarity from my fasts though.

When I fast, I'm already in a weakened lethargic state and use dry fasting as an added tool which is great for going from 10% body fat to 6%. I'll usually carb load a few days before in order to get the most conversion and use of glycogen as possible without muscles becoming 'flat.'

If not for autophagy and a reset of my gut biome, I would much rather take a few weeks at 1200 calories a day to get my body dysmorphia under control, since fasting is aggravating to do when dating or having to be around other people constantly.

As far as the sugar aspect you mentioned, I don't eat fruits or veggies (unless grown myself or by friends) and choose to supplement any missing minerals/vitamins I need. I figure there's enough sugar alcohols in the protein drinks I partake in that trick my brain into thinking it's getting sugar anyways which I only partake of when I need extra calories and too lazy to eat.

I've not found a single protein supplement that I will use anymore now that I know what all that extra shit is they put in it. BTW, stevia is detrimental to your gut too, and lasts in your gut for months

For close to a decade I used whey powder from a bulk food manufacturer. 40 kilos for 80 bucks. Tasted like spoiled cheese and an absolute menace to mix but insane protein to calorie ratio without any added fake sugars and flavorings. Now the same 40 kilos is about 400 bucks plus 80 shipping. Just not worth it to me. Interesting about stevia. I have never tried it or anything with it inside but I will pay extra attention to it now. Appreciate that tidbit of knowledge bc I think most of my hormone fluctuations and lethargy happens from bad gut biome.
