I kind of fast every day for decades because I only eat dinner. But I was listening to an athlete talking about how he fasts for 5 days when his sport is on the offseason.

Do you fast? If so why? How long? Do you only drink water? What do you believe this can do for you?

Also this guy was saying it seems harder for people who go through sugar withdrawal. I just avoid sugar anyway because I don’t like the taste of anything with a lot of sugar in it. But sugar gets in from vegetables, sauces, etc.

I do intermittent fasting daily. Start at like 10_12 hours no eating. Easily doable. Think not eating after 8pm and no food until to 8am. Easy 12 hours. If you get hungry at night, brush your teeth instead. Most people are too lazy to eat after that. Then dial back the hours. No food after 7, no food until after 9am. Keep pushing AM back until it is lunch. You spoke keep your eating window to like 6 hours a day.
Short term your body can't distinguish between liquid and solid. Drink some water, black coffee, green tea etc whenever you feel hungry. Most people eat because it is habit. Oh it's lunchtime, I'll have a sandwich, but are you actually hungry or eating because you normally do. Someone mentioned eating OMAD and 5-6pm time (One Meal a Day). That's a great strategy. Forget the 'starvation mode' bullshit the fat harpies spew. Work on the intermittent fasting (16+ hours) and try a few days a week with OMAD and then you can more readily do a 2 to 5 day fast.
