Normally I don't read NPR bullshit but this caught my eye.

Do any of you Poalers do the cold water plunge thing? What are your thoughts on it?

My advice, if you want to try cold showers, baths, or swimming, is to follow Wim Hof’s method. If you are doing Wim’s method correctly you will not be shivering. It wakes up your body and gets it to produce more heat to counteract the cold.

That article that I posted says that it's the shiver that activates all the goodness of the cold water.

I know, and there may be some use in stressing your body like that, but it also makes you vulnerable to getting sick.

Wim’s method seems to be the way our northern bodies are meant to adapt to sudden cold environments. Learning how to do it is waking up a different mode of functioning you didn’t know your body had.

My son talks about it. I'll look into it more.
