That was the basic jist, but I think polio was a thing because pesticides were getting into the water supply and weakening the intestinal lining of children, which gave a pathway for bacteria and pathogens ro attack the spinal cord. Sanitation eventually improved so polio mostly went away, but there's still a bunch of toxins in the water supply.
