Corporate lobbyists and corn subsidies keep this in place.
Honestly, if we're going to have these programs, there should only be a half dozen items in the permitted list. Cheese, meat, rice, bread, and raw, unprocessed cereals and beans.
If they want anything beyond that, they need to earn it.
meat
Ever been to BBQ with a Mexican? An ex gf had some Mexican friends come over for a BBQ, they pull up in a, bondo-ed up, jalopy, seats torn out, yadda yadda.
pulled out a cooler with probably $500+ of steak in it. like most beaners they had a brood of kids and I'm sure got fat gibs.
if meat is on the program it should be limited to ground beef chubs or whole chickens
If they said the meat must be chicken or turkey, I'd be okay with that.
agreed, though SNAP is supposed to be supplemental. There is an argument that meat shouldn't be approved at all (I'm on the fence).
The idea would be they have to work for meat, but they can be supplemented cheap food like potatoes, rice beans.
Well duh, if they cut out the sugar then their cattle will have fewer diseases and won't need medication, which affects the bottom line of drug companies and the FDA itself.
BINGO^
I'm trying to have compassion for them but can't abide idiots.
Fatty liver disease was once a malady reserved for life long committed booze hounds. Now it's frequently seen in children.
Exactly. People don't understand when you see someone -- including kids -- with a fat belly, it's liver disease, which starts with a fatty liver.
Only difference between sugar and spirits is that sugar doesn't get you drunk. The body processes alcohol and sugar exactly the same way. Sugar alcohol....
I don't think it's just sugary drinks. Have you seen how fucking fat kids are now?
49% of sugar consumed is hidden in foods, plus 35% from sugary drinks and 16% from desserts/sweets. It's sugar that's causing the obesity.
I have far too much sugar, but I work 15 hour days in manual labour type work, so I'm still fit.
Lucky you! Most people can't burn that much off each day. People are addicted to package and fast food, which is so unhealthy for you.
Its about the same level of sugar consumption regardless whether they have snap.
You can have fun on food stamps -- just not that much fun.
Buy potatoes and ferment them.
