Ancel Keys manipulated data to justify his theory that low fat diets reduced the risk of heart disease and the AHA and govt agencies (USDA, FDA, NIH) adopted his theory without listening to the arguments from other medical professionals who said it would make us FAT. And it did. (Reminds me of the COVID Vax propaganda & Fauci.) It eventually influenced the creation of the food pyramid, which advocated a diet low in fat and high in grains, breads and cereals (aka sugar).

It costs $ 1 Billion a day in health care to treat Type II diabetes. It will eventually bankrupt us if something doesn't change.

Here's the real story:

Very true.

The thing that keeps me on the fence about diet in general is another controversial topic around here: evolution. I buy into it, and think that, if it’s true, our bodies were likely optimized for another diet. Of course the demands of our body have changes as well, but ….

That’s what led me into the “caveman” diet. What did my ancestors eat for thousands of years? That is what evolution taught us. However, in the modern world where everything is available at all times moderation is the key with any diet you choose, whether it’s vegan, carnivore, or anything in between. Eating too much is bad. There is a reason why gluttony and sloth are up there in the major sins, lol!

Yes, unfortunately many of us eat now as a hobby, that was (obviously) never meant to be.

If you eat snicker bars and cookies all day who the heck wants an apple...

Yep. Sugar makes your crave more carbs/sugar. It's that addictive. Sugar depletes your Thiamine stores (B1). That's why you get a sugar crash after eating it. And don't think the govt agencies don't know that. All you need to do is check the ingredients on the back of a package of sugary cereal. They are required to add in Thiamine - because they know without it, the stuff would kill you.
