Ancel Keys manipulated data to justify his theory that low fat diets reduced the risk of heart disease and the AHA and govt agencies (USDA, FDA, NIH) adopted his theory without listening to the arguments from other medical professionals who said it would make us FAT. And it did. (Reminds me of the COVID Vax propaganda & Fauci.) It eventually influenced the creation of the food pyramid, which advocated a diet low in fat and high in grains, breads and cereals (aka sugar).

It costs $ 1 Billion a day in health care to treat Type II diabetes. It will eventually bankrupt us if something doesn't change.

Here's the real story:

The food pyramid is basically an advertising campaign to get people to buy more grains than meat, because it’s easier to sustain the nation from an agricultural perspective

I would be even more cynical. People are encouraged to eat a diet that will lead to chronic disease so that pharmaceutical companies (and their owners) can make billions selling drugs to treat the symptoms.

Diabetes medicine didn’t exist when the food pyramid came out

I love the food pyramid. It makes my competition sick and means lower prices of meat for me to raise my superior children.
