France has banned Titanium dioxide from food additives, because it's extremely dangerous for health. Experiments show this substance damages body cells, which causes organ damage and also cancer. Other countries still allow this poison to be added to food. It is said that the lobby of Titanium dioxide producers is heavily bribing other governments to keep this dangerous additive allowed for food.

Titanium dioxide is an ingredient used to whiten many food products in addition to cosmetic, paint, and paper products. Foods with titanium dioxide are typically candies, pastries, chewing gum, coffee creamers, chocolates, and cake decorations.

Good on France

A libertarian would say something stupid like "wait for the market to correct itself" or now "prices will go up" because "food, soda, and candy makers who use titanium dioxide will not be able to fairly compete on the market" and "France will cause an unfair advantage to importers instead of domestic producers of goods " so on and so forth.

Me?

Ban the shit entirely. Go fuck yourself

A libertarian would say, label that shit with information on the dangers and let people live like they're grown-ups and choose whether to buy it.

No they wouldn't

Go back and read all the literature and forum banter from libertarians when GMO labeling was on the ballot.

Fucking Republicans and Libertarians stood against it. Cost of the sticker or some shit. It was abysmal.

Why don't they just... Switch to making another product that isn't poisonous?

To be added to food, [titanium dioxide] must achieve 99% purity. However, this leaves room for small amounts of potential contaminants like lead, arsenic, or mercury.

Tasty!

So it's not titanium dioxide that's dangerous. That's like banning water because it's often contaminated.

I make soap and refuse to use this stuff (or any non natural colorant).

People have no idea how bad everything wants to kill them. They trust that authority!

It doesn't get much more natural than titanium dioxide.

Asbestos, strychnine, cyanide, lead, mercury and many more things that can be quite harmful are also natural. It's amazing the things people will believe just because they follow a different narrative than the one they are against. Nature produces some really nasty shit, but hey, it's natural right? They should go drink some water from Yellowstone and see how great nature is sometimes.

So what kinds of natural colorants are you using? I ask because so many people assume that natural means harmless. I'd like to see what harmful components your natural colorants have in them so you can reconsider using those in the future.

Goats milk, turmeric, paprika, spirulina, carrot.

Spirulina and turmeric are both considered health hazards to inhalation and skin contact. Turmeric contains curcumin which is considered a hazardous material by OSHA. Curcumin can also release hazardous decomposition vapors. Turmeric carries a health hazard rating of 2 on the material safety diamond placard where titanium dioxide only has a rating of 1 on the same. Curcumin also has a lower dose level on the LD50 toxicity (>5000 mg/Kg) compared to titanium dioxide (>10000 mg/kg). Are you sure "natural" truly means "safe"?
