They say cramps are caused by dehydration so overnight I must have downed about half a gallon of water and an oz of salt .. nothing worked, some say mixed with water will bring results, I tried that and obtained limited success though I had none yesterday .. anyone know of other treatments or preventative measures ??

1) You have a potassium/sodium/electrolyte imbalance or deficiency. Eat a banana and drink some Gatoraid

2) You are way out of shape. Exercise again tomorrow the same way. Repeat until you can do it without getting cramps.

Yeah thanks for the reply .. yesterday I made the same trip in the heat here in Queensland Australia and made sure I was fully hydrated before I left, I bought bananas for the first time since a holistic practitioner said they were delivering too much sugar into my system. .

I live on a hill thus can coast much of the way to the commercial center, then coming back with a fully laden bike I have to negotiate 69 steps to get onto street level, then gain about another 60 feet in altitude to get home .. I could feel the calf muscles tensioning when I was on the steps.

I mixed a little Angostura in some lemonade and had that after about an hour then had a single banana after that, I consumed another banana before hitting the sack at about 9:00 pm, and will attest there were no cramps for the first time after a shopping day for a goodly time at least .. thanks for the advice :) good luck.

Good job. Keep at it. Do it again tomorrow

Eat a peeled banana whole without chewing or breaking it.

How do you eat a whole banana without breaking or chewing it unless youre a gold medal olympic cock sucker?

Back when I did CrossFit, I found epsom salt soaks quite helpful. Also, I used heating pads under my desk at work and those helped too. Don’t forget good old fashion Tylenol and Advil. I also recall having some success with creatine.

I’m not sure how old you are or how bad the pain is but when you can, make sure you exercise again because you gotta get the blood moving. I don’t really work out like I used to a decade ago but I think I recall that lactic acid accumulates and you need to release it to make the pain go away and one of the fastest ways to do that is to work out again. But ... that will hurt.

And yes staying hydrated is super important but it sounds like you have that covered.

Remember day 2 is the most painful day!

Good luck!

Make your own magnesium oil. Equal amounts Ancient Minerals/distilled water (by volume), put in glass spray bottle, spray where it hurts, and/or where skin is the thinnest. Transdermally, your body takes what it needs. Avoids cough intestinal distress when more is consumed than is needed. Results can be very fast.

Yeah right .. thanks for the reply.

You are likely dehydrated. Pinch the skin on the back of your hand. Does it snap back down? Hydrated. Take a second or two? Dehydrated. Stay standing? Go to a hospital.

Magnesium, potassium, sodium.

Hydration and mineral balance. Your potassium/sodium balance is out of whack. Generally cramps are from low potassium. It's also possible that you are just cramping up from exercising muscles you rarely, if ever, use.

Some guy named Cohen sells Liquid IV which is patented. Supposedly it's a super effective hydration formula. Did I mention the CEO is named Cohen? Try at your own risk.
