The stories are saying that out of all deaths recorded as COVID, 94% of the deaths were COVID-related, but that in only 6% of the cases did COVID alone kill the person.

Influenza - for that matter any illness - is more likely to kill an older person, a person with smoking-related damage or other major health issues as well. The death count wasn't reduced in this case, it was simply unpacked to show what other circumstances affected the outcome.

But seeing as how hysterical the medical industry was to scream COVID death (see the motorcycle accident where the guy died of COVID) it wouldn't surprise me if this number itself was wrong in some way. Not saying it is, just that everything smells funny at this point.
