Not only did they access his safe but the FBI also allegedly turned off his security cameras and held his girlfriend at gun point.

In a statement Liberty Safe confirmed they gave the FBI Hughes’ code:

“Liberty Safe was contacted by the FBI requesting the access code to the safe of an individual for whom they had a warrant to search their property…”

“Liberty Safe is devoted to protecting the personal property and 2nd amendment rights of our customers…”

You can change the code yourself on electronic safe locks. Simply press the 0 tab six times, when you hear two beeps, enter the existing (factory) code, when you hear two beeps enter the new (personalized) code. After the next two beeps enter the new code again. That's it. Only a fool would keep the factory code on their safe. Mechanical locks are best and safest but it will take a locksmith to change the combination but it can be done fairly cheaply.

My understanding is that there is a built in backdoor to get around any user passcode in case the user locks themselves out. This isn't them keeping oem passcodes from safes, this is a backdoor.
