The biggest prohibition against the truck gun rack in this 3rd decade of the 21st century, is rampant larceny. Signs and wonders of a society in decline.

Is this generally illegal today? Guessing the legality varies widely from state to state.

It seems to me that assuming your are allowed to have a firearm in your vehicle, having it on a gun rack would not be explicitly illegal.

Of course its highly impractical today for a number of reasons.
