We tried a prohibition on alcohol and it didn't keep criminals from accessing alcohol and it turned many ordinary people into "criminals". Marijuana control, however, has worked much better.

Yes we legalized it.

Y'all new round these parts? Round here we often engage in ironic or satirical comments. The second sentence was to point out that criminals still access it easily and many ordinary people become criminals, suggesting that a prohibition on guns would have similar results. (Local laws aside, weed is still illegal at the federal level, disqualifies one from purchasing or possessing a firearm, is grounds for dismissal from federal employment, etc. They don't enforce it but if you piss them off and it's all they have, they can use it to arrest and silence you.)

Yep green behind the ears and fresh off the boat. Just your average niggerfaggot.

Alcohol prohibition works just fine in many Muslim countries, because they actually enforce the very tough laws. Who would risk a year in prison for one beer? US Prohibition was a joke.

A large enough minority of people in this country were not taught from birth that they would go to hell for drinking. Alcohol prohibition failed here because people voted with their dollars. Naturally enforcement had to take into account that it was impractical trying to imprison a large portion of the population (we're trying that now) so it was selectively enforced. The rich and powerful always had well stocked liquor cabinets while the small timer making a few quarts in a basement still could expect a raid and prison. It was a joke but not terribly funny.

It didn't work because the law was a joke. It wasn't illegal to possess or consume alcohol, only manufacture or sell it. Everyone with a bit of money stocked up. The White House cellar was full of booze, wine, and beer.
