Okay, so I plagiarized it, but that's what we should roll with.

It might be a tough sell nowadays but I think it could catch on.

I'm thinking about dropping that part. No need to explain myself. In a couple hundred years from now, people may be confused. It could become a point of contention.
Maybe that's what led to my tepid reaction. I'd be worried that the word "militia" would be purposefully misconstrued by people looking to limit the right.
Yeah. Replace that bit with a shorter and more concise, "Because FUCK YOU"!
American people DID write that!
