I generally charge my phone with the usb ports on my laptop and I have no clue the voltage they put out

3.5 to 5 V, normally. Is it USB 2.0 to 3.0? If so, it should adjust to the draw, so that'd be fine.

Yeah, that should be just fine as it's a 3.0 phone as well - assuming it is. It probably is, if it's modern but not quite USB-C.
