I'm trying to retire, even from performing.
I've done a lot of it. I've seen it all. I've done it all.
Plus, I'm getting too old for that shit. At the end of the night, I'm sore and tired. It takes so much out of you... So much...
If I'm going to keep performing with any regularity, it's going to be a solo act, maybe a duet, and for very small audiences.
And I'm gonna sit the fuck down for a change.
I guess you could be a bad politician and make a bunch of promises and then just act like you're retired until the next election.
That's kinda the problem.
If elected, I'd feel obligated to do the job for which I was elected.
I actually kinda ran for office once. I was exceedingly drunk and high at the time. I even had a paid campaign manager, but we mostly drank and did drugs together.
Somehow, and I was running for the Maine Senate, we managed to come up with enough signatures to run for office.
Then shit happened that soured me on the idea. Like, a local car dealership wanted to give me a car (donate a new car to use while campaigning) and shit like that. It was just assumed that I'd take the car, and everyone else in my position was doing so. I refused.
It wasn't long before I dropped out.
Even shitfaced, I had a pretty good chance at winning. I'm quite likable - charismatic. People are drawn to me and assume I'm a good leader. When I enter a room, I'm generally the center of attention - regardless of which room it is I enter.
So, winning was a possibility.
I dropped out. Fuck that... I'm not going to play the game with a hand tied behind my back. I'm not going to compromise my ethics to benefit large donors. I'm not going to be a party to that system.
When you watch the people running for local offices, look at their cars. For people who make so little money, they sure do drive modern cars. That's 'cause dealerships are a forced monopoly. In almost every state, Ford can't sell directly to a person, nor can Dodge, nor can Chevy, nor can Mercedes, etc... It has to go through a dealership.
Dealers don't want that to change.
The automobile manufacturers sometimes want it to change, but the dealers do not. So, they constantly help politicians.
I had people offering me free dining, free services, etc...
And, so long as those things were donated to help my campaign - and they were noted properly in the accounting - it was perfectly fucking legal.
Hmm...
I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation at least twice before now. LOL
Yeah, at least twice before...
I think I might have included more information this time! So, there's that!
You have told me most of that before.
Politics is full of people who enter the field simply to enjoy those perks
