Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask theBuddha, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

Reminder: December 23rd is going to be our Christmas edition of the Friday Night Guitar Thread. Get to working on your Christmas songs now so they are done in time!

I wanna make sure it's a risk before I undertake the risk associated with escaping.

Unless, of course, getting the fuck out of Dodge is easier than making sure it's a risk.

As a civilian, the only time I've run towards gun fire it was a neighbor setting off fireworks or touching off a few rounds in their yard (all while I was in an urban area) or when cops were actively shooting someone. The cops scare me more than find a neighbor with a firearm in their hands that's plinking targets.

Where I live now, it's not uncommon to hear people shooting in my sand pit. I don't even bother checking unless I'm bored and want to see what they're shooting. The locals are fucking awesome about policing their brass and leaving the place clean - mostly. If not, someone else will clean up after them just 'cause they know that's pretty much my only rule.

If you want to touch off rounds on my property, you will keep the place clean. The same thing applies if you're camping, partying, or off-roading. So long as you clean up after yourself - and not cut any living trees without permission - you're good to go. I add the trees bit 'cause I mentioned campers/hikers. People shooting their firearms aren't actually cutting down trees, so that's not a concern.

I also have a phone number. I have posted signs asking people to call the number before they go hiking or camping. It's just for the purposes of search and rescue. The phone doesn't ring and silently records all calls. So, it doesn't bother me. It's just there if someone does get lost. Then we can listen to the recording (hopefully) and find out when they went in, where they went in, and how long they planned on staying.

I consider that the best of both worlds kinda sorta. I figure it's the responsible thing to do.

I'm pretty sure I've said all this dozens of times.

Have there been people who went hiking on your property and got themselves lost?

You know it is Friday today, right?

And I am now up to the year you were born

Oh, and yes I know it's Friday. I've got the thread ready to roll.

Yup. Two of them have been on my property and lost. Another party of six was more or less on my property and they weren't so much lost as they just overestimated their abilities. They had enough supplies and would likely have been out in a couple of days.

That's just my property.

That's also all we know about. There could be more.

I've mentioned this before, but I can't stress it enough. Maine is the most heavily forested state in the union. You can and will die out there if you don't know what you're doing. It's not a joke. It's not meant to sound tough. It does happen.

It can happen during any season. It's not just summer hikers.

We get a lot of people who have no fucking business being in the woods. The last search party I was on was one where we found them - and they all had working cell phones. Cell phones that have GPS. Even if you can't connect to the network, you can see GPS information and find out which direction you're moving. From there, you can point in the direction you came from and get back to where you came from.

Not one of the dumb bastards did so.

yeah even without service you can still access the map and find the nearest road even if you can not figure out where you came in
