I could not imagine how frightening 100mph would be in an Isetta
LOL I was envisioning something a tiny bit faster. Somewhere in the 8 second range. That seems do-able based on my understanding of the tech AND the weight - but it'd need to be AWD for that so that it gets off the line quickly instead of sitting there spinning the tires. I did some rough math in my head and that seemed like a realistic number.
The Tesla Plaid does the quarter in about 8.5 seconds at just over 160 MPH. This weighs a whole lot less and I'd like to be dumping about the same amount of juice in one go. After all, I don't actually care about range. I only need to make a few runs down the track. I don't have to drive it home afterwards. I just toss it on a trailer and I'm good.
So, I was picturing that kinda performance.
Man that thing would be like it had a rocket on it at that speed
That's why the parachute!
See? I was thinking ahead!
It might require some custom software. With the lack of weight, though the batteries will add some, I worry that (even with all wheel drive) it'd sit there roasting tires off it instead of going down the strip. But, that should be overcome with some testing. Probably ought to do that testing at a drag strip while nobody is there.
There's so little mass for the wheels that it'd be insane. One of the biggest losses in torque are getting the tire/wheel's mass spinning up to speed. That's why Koenigsegg makes their wheels out of carbon fiber. Well, these tires are also really light - even with motors on all four corners.
With the battery mass AND a human inside, it might be okay.
