The dude went batshit crazy and ended up dying in prison. He was 'treating' people by putting them in a wooden box covered with metal. In the box, they were subjected to more 'orgone'. Orgone (I think I'm spelling it right) was orgasm energy that controlled the universe. He built this device that you see in the article. It connected to water and was supposed to make it rain. Well, he used it once and it rained - so he decided it worked. He then went to Arizona and, in a very public way, declared he was going to make it rain. It did cloud up a little bit, but it didn't rain. So, he decided it didn't rain because we were under attack from aliens - aliens who were using some sort of anti-orgone energy. We were not, in fact, being attacked by aliens. Finally, the FDA had enough and told him that if he sold any more of his orgone box devices as medical devices then he'd be going to prison. Sure enough, one of his employees sold another box. The FDA was not fucking around, plus he was a socialist, so he went right straight to prison and the government torched all his paperwork - though copies existed elsewhere and you can buy copies of his papers. He died in prison. He had a heart attack just a couple of years into his sentence and that's what killed him. He gave all sorts of women orgasms - for science. He had special dildos and believed that the energy from orgasms explained everything in the universe, including how the planets moved around the sun, how stars were created, what caused gravity, etc... Today, some people use his plans to "remove chemtrails from the sky". The device is just tubes - empty tubes - that you put one end in water and then point the device where you want in the sky. It literally is just tubes. There's no power source or magic electronics. It's just tubes. He was gloriously insane. He was once a reputable shrink, but he got kicked out of that and then escaped to the US when Hitler took over and declared he was a subversive. Amusingly, we did much the same thing as it was the McCarthy era. The man believed orgasms were what made the world go 'round. Yup. Gloriously insane... He's pretty much my favorite person from Rangeley history. There's a museum you can visit.
