Fuck no...
Well, maybe somewhere around here.
I don't actually like rap, as a general rule. I sure as fuck am not a gangsta rapper. I just played guitar parts as described and in the right key. It was my job. Though, by the time I did that I no longer really needed the money. I just did it 'cause I like playing guitar professionally. My hourly rate would work out to $100 an hour as an average by that time. You usually hired me for a two hour block and the cost was $200.
I don't like rap either. $100 bucks an hour will buy a lot of beer
It was great when I was booked for two sessions on a Friday afternoon.
A lot of the people in studios should be sober, but they're not. You should use your studio time professionally, but there are some pretty unprofessional people in the industry. Many would be bar bands wanting me to add fill and play things they could not. So, their quality was dubious to begin with but they thought they were big-time stars in there recording.
So, I'd get a good buzz on with them and they'd waste everyone's time - getting a shitty product because of it. So, they'd pay for more studio time when they could afford it and make the same mistakes. I got paid for my time, even if I didn't do anything. We'd have people come into the studio without even having finished their songs. Yeah...
Four hours worth of sitting around, getting wasted, and playing for 20 minutes was a pretty good start to the weekend.
hell yeah!
