That's the goal. That's always the goal, really. Race cars (in this kind of racing) all are subject to "BOP" - Balance Of Performance. So, if your car is faster than the rest, they'll do things like limit how low you can set your car, how much aero you can have, make you add weight to the car, reduce the amount of air your engine gets, and stuff like that.
That way, the cars are more or less equal - meaning they make a lap time similar to each other, but often in different ways but still the same time...
Racing is about the driver and about the strategy you use. That's why they do BOP. It shouldn't be about one car being faster, handling better, etc... It should be about who drives best and what race strategy they use.
Yeah, well you could do racing where the team that can get the fastest car with control wins, but that's more like a technology race, than a drivers competition.
If that were the case, every driver would just switch to that make/model of car. So, you'd end up with a single mark race anyhow.
