Of course. I generally negotiate a flat rate fee for most of my jobs. They will offer something like $50 an hour for up to 4 hours with the budget set at $200. I flat out tell them I will go do the work for the $200 and if it happens to take longer than the 4 hours you pay me $50 an hour for the additional hours. That way when things go like they did today, I still get the $200 for showing up instead of all of a sudden I only get $50 cause the issue has been resolved or whatever. The companies probably do not like that but hell with them. I am not going to drive 30 miles each way and spend an hour working and only get $50
That makes sense to me, though I suspect it wasn't you driving 30 miles...

Yeah I have my oldest son drive me and he does all the work, I do the paperwork and the phone calls and deal with the people, while he gets everything done. It works out great for me
