Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

I have a small logging operation on my property. They do selective cutting (often cutting what the mills are taking) and do some cutting for a couple of specialty mills. It pays enough to keep like seven people employed and the profits almost always cover my property taxes for my three biggest bits of property here in Maine.

That's not all my property taxes - the rest of the property is in managed trusts so I have nothing to do with the tax paying. I see it in itemized yearly accounting, though I could see it more often. I don't bother. I trust my lawyer, I trust my accountant, and I trust my finance manager.

Well, I don't necessarily trust them - but they all kinda work as checks and balances against each other. If one of them were to try to fuck me over, one of the other two would notice in short order. Individually, I mostly trust them to do the right thing. None of them are dumb enough to risk prison time.

I hope that those folks are honest and they don't collude against you!

LOL The odds of all three of 'em deciding to say, "Fuck it, I'm going to end up getting caught and going to prison!" are pretty low.

'Cause, they will get caught.

They also can't get very far or very much money. Well, to most folks they could access a lot of money but for me anything larger than 6 figures requires my intervention. They'd be hard pressed to get around that.

They could take smaller amounts, but there's only so much in cash. Liquidating most assets would require my intervention. It'd also take some time.

I'm pretty safe, I figure. My losses would be relatively insignificant.

They'd piss me off and I'd ensure they were prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but they'd not really do anything of any significance.

I don't just keep liquid assets (cash) sitting around in bank accounts. Bank accounts do pay me better interest than they do you (by virtue of my larger deposits and number of transactions), but they still don't beat the interest rates for pretty much every other (good) investment out there.

That's a good thing. I doubt they would want to get together and risk their way of life and reputation unless they could walk away with fuck you money.
