Oh, yes... Even if it's not insurance fraud. It's arson if you torch your own house (without a permit). It means you're endangering other people, so it's a criminal act. I'm like 90% sure it also applies to cars.

I know a dude who went to prison for intentionally setting his own house on fire. It wasn't even insurance fraud, he was just pissed that his wife was going to get it in the divorce.
