Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

Oh absolutely, but they had QC issues for most of those years.

And, yeah, they dumped a bunch of people in the 70s to make it 'leaner'. Then after the late 2010s they fired the CEO - which was actually a good thing as Gibson's reputation was being dragged through the mud.

The QC was so bad that some absurdly high number of them were being returned. Some of the shops were reporting like a 5% return rate - before they even made it to the customer. The shops themselves sent them back rather than putting them on their shelves. Then, customers returned a bunch.

The 70s and late 2010s will forever be black marks against Gibson.

But, to be perfectly fair, most manufacturers in the 70s (and into the 80s) were lacking in quality. That's what made room in the market for foreign guitars - specifically from Japan. That led to the 'lawsuit era' guitars, where buying an import looked just like the real thing but often worked just as well and sometimes better.

It wasn't until much later that we'd see the Chinese move into the market - which is kinda odd. China has a LONG history of working with stringed instruments. That's why they can pump out $200 guitars that are perfectly playable - often straight out of the box. For example, my Chibson Les Paul had a slight intonation issue that you'd only notice if you had a very good tuner. It was also fixed in about two minutes.

I think we're in a golden years situation with guitars right now. The pandemic helped a great deal as seemingly everyone bought a guitar to keep them company during the pandemic.

Guitar prices are expected to rise - a good deal's worth of rising - largely due to shipping costs.

So, if you're going to buy a new guitar, you have a perfectly good excuse to do so!

I don't think I am going to be buying any new guitars

Man, that took some digging. It's 500 watt peak and only 75 watt RMS. (But still a lot of bang for the buck.)

Probably loud as fuck

Also, my memory is usually pretty shitty.

But, not for guitar stuff and not for Gibson stuff!

See:

So, yeah... There are some years, even a decade, where you want to avoid Gibson products - unless you know what you're doing, know what you're getting, and can live with the end result long-term.

The good news is that they're usually pretty inexpensive for those outlying years.

I wonder if this is really 500 watts:

https://www.amazon.com/EMB-Electric-Amplifier-Portable-Powerful/dp/B09D8XBXLG/

Pushing that much through a 10" speaker means it's going to suck - or be a surprisingly good speaker at that price range. I'm tempted to order one just to see if it's a true 500 watt RMS. Maybe it's peak wattage, but that's still insane at this price point.

if it's a solid amp, you should buy one - if you're going to perform.

My Marshall (down here) has a few wrinkles in the tolex. I don't mind. The store gave me a discount on it. But, I wonder if it speaks to their QC?

No, probably not... There are some great import guitars at not a lot of money. The under $300 market is pretty strong.
