Sometimes, yes. We'd have courses that... Well, they would course through the woods and would be covered in ice. Sometimes they'd be long - like a good half mile long, or even longer. The courses would be 'flagged' with ribbons and would be pretty much ice. The angle of attack was often 60° in some places.
We were stupid children. We even had a ski slope, but we weren't really allowed to sled down that 'cause we'd fuck up the snow. They even had a primitive snow making machine back then. Weekends were pretty much our own and at least a couple dozen people were 'locals' - meaning they didn't stay on campus at all or at least not all the time. So, we'd venture out into the town and all over the place. Once you had your license and a car, you had pretty much complete freedom outside of school hours.
It's nothing like that today. No... No, we were pretty much the last generation of fun before the school cleaned up their reputation and lawyers started setting policies to avoid lawsuits.
Sounds like it was a damn good time to be there!
It was awesome. I learned a lot. I had a ton of fun. I fell in love with Maine. I fell in love with winter.
The generation before us had to do shit like their own groundskeeping. They'd lost a bit of prestige and we were as they were earning it back. Well, maybe a couple of generations before us. LOL By the time I was there, that wasn't our job. But, yeah, not too many years before me the students were expected to do everything like shovel snow and mow the lawns. We didn't do any of that shit.
I actually think that is a great idea to make the students do those type of things
