It's sloped where you land, reducing the degree of attack and lessening the impact.
We used to take sleds out on the snowmobile trails. They'd be pretty much ice and go down hills at some really steep angled. We'd probably hit 50 mph or more in them.
We'd also take them down the rest of the trails where they wind through the woods with almost no room for error. Numerous bones were broken.
Were you towing the sleds with the snowmobiles?
Sometimes, yes. We'd have courses that... Well, they would course through the woods and would be covered in ice. Sometimes they'd be long - like a good half mile long, or even longer. The courses would be 'flagged' with ribbons and would be pretty much ice. The angle of attack was often 60° in some places.
We were stupid children. We even had a ski slope, but we weren't really allowed to sled down that 'cause we'd fuck up the snow. They even had a primitive snow making machine back then. Weekends were pretty much our own and at least a couple dozen people were 'locals' - meaning they didn't stay on campus at all or at least not all the time. So, we'd venture out into the town and all over the place. Once you had your license and a car, you had pretty much complete freedom outside of school hours.
It's nothing like that today. No... No, we were pretty much the last generation of fun before the school cleaned up their reputation and lawyers started setting policies to avoid lawsuits.
Sounds like it was a damn good time to be there!
