You might as well make the work as easy as possible. PB Blaster is a good choice, I think.
Do you have a 'hot wrench' if things go south? There's a time and a place for the torch!
I can kinda weld. I'd not trust my welding to anything too structural, but I could weld engine mount hardware back in place after a torch-mishap.
Seriously, I do not envy your task.
I do have a torch on hand just in case! Thankfully tho I've never had to use it whenever I've done work on the Vic :) The car has next to nothing in terms of rust so at least I have that in my favor haha
To be honest, my welds look like pigeon shit lol. I'm pretty good with soldering but I have very little experience with welding. I definitely want to get around to practicing more because I think metal fabrication is loads of fun, just gotta get my own equipment though and also a place to do it. On the bright side, I do know some excellent welders just in case
I envy your car lift hahaha
LOL My car lift is enviable! It's perfectly acceptable to envy a lift! I envied one. That's why I got one. It has had many hours of use.
I too solder much better than I weld. My first four years in college were as an electronics engineer major with a minor in pure math. It wasn't until grad school that I switched to applied mathematics.
A torch comes in handy!
As for welding, it's mostly about keeping the pool going. I know some great welders. I am not even remotely great - I'm not even good. But... It holds...
I wouldn't count on me welding a trailer hitch - but I'd count on me welding a new mount for a stake on the side of the trailer! I'm somewhere between those skills.
Haha! That's exactly right! Whenever I get my lift, I'll be using that thing like a whore lol!
Right on! Do you still do any soldering nowadays? I actually just got some new solder tips in the mail today. One of them is this interesting looking angled tip that I think should help me with extremely small pads. I'm trying to resolder the tiny pins on a micro USB port back onto a power distribution board so I'm hoping it'll to do the trick
That sounds like some decent welding skills. Better than mine at least. I only trust myself to weld some sort of paperweight haha
