Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

You want the internet like it used to be? Is that it?

[–] 0 pt

Kinda? Mostly?

Maybe some sort of license structure to access different levels of the web, where you gotta take a test to reach each level. Mobile users are restricted to the bottom tier, like Facebook and Twitter. They can browse (but not edit) Wikipedia. Next level, you get access to search engines. The next level will let you participate in forums and create your own site...

That sorta thing...

I'm just so tired of the stupid people influencing the narrative. I could also be reasoned into only allowing people with an IQ higher than above average the right to vote. No, stupid people shouldn't get a say in how the country is run. The very idea of stupid people making decisions is just fucking wrong.

Ah well...

On a positive note, my linux-tips.us site is averaging 140 unique visitors per day so far this month.

Kind of like the old AOL walled garden?

Until phones came along that kept grandma and the kids pretty well contained

Even with the AOL walled garden, you could open another browser and use that to access the web.

Man, so many people didn't know that. They'd just use the AOL icon which loaded the shitty AOL browser and restricted them to just AOL stuff.

Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't have told those people how to actually access the rest of the 'net...

Then again, you have "Eternal September" which is when the internet died - it was when AOL gave their members access to Usenet. Suddenly, there were millions of stupid people using our newsgroups. It was fucking terrible. Oh, man, was that fucking terrible. That was like 1993 or something? I'd have to look...

Fuck it...

Yeah, 1993...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September

Man, that pissed me off so much back in the day. Millions of stupid people who had no idea how to behave online just inundated us. There were so many of them that voices of reason were drowned out.

It has been like that ever since. The smart and the reasonable have just a few enclaves online (and no, Poal is not one of them).

Anyhow, if you're Master of the Universe, you've got some shit to do. There's so much wrong that needs fixing. You're gonna be pretty fucking busy. Hell, if you're going to be master of the universe then you probably also need to give up drugs/alcohol/sex so that you can concentrate on fixing this fucked up shit.

And, yeah... AOL keeping them on their AOL shittiness was not a bad thing. It was bad if you wanted to get your site included with them, but yeah... Maybe we need something like that again? It's probably too late to do anything now.
