There's always gonna be stupid people. Believe it or not, not all drug users are stupid. Most of 'em you won't even know are users.

Most users have families, successful careers, etc... We just notice the outliers, the ones that couldn't maintain their use. Also, these same users are the idiots that tend to get caught with drugs and end up in jail. We notice the junkies. We notice the fucking idiots that can't maintain. At least that's my observation.

Well, no... There's a skew towards the dumber or poorer - but it's not as large a skew as people think. For every full blown junkie I know, I probably know a half dozen users that use and maintain their shit well enough to function.

I also suspect you see a different set of users. You're in a different economic and social class than I'm in. You probably don't see the drug users that wear suits and drive luxury sedans to their six figure job. You might not notice the tradesman that pulls down middle-class income but gets high as fuck on the weekends.

A goodly percentage of ODs are from people whose family (and few friends) even knew they were using.

Yeah. If I do encounter those in suit and tie and luxury ride group they would keep it hidden from me usually. Though I associate with everybody. From the homeless destitute drug addicts to business owner millionaires. I find once they are comfortable with you they all are happy to share their drugs.
