I read today that it's devs that want to require the safety stuff and not joogle; written into the api or something like that. "Safety". I think this would probably really f* with people's plex servers and all the android tv stuff people use as work arounds for streaming as well.

The article does mention what devs want but they are part of the problem. Candy Crush knows how many dogs you have, where the sofa is, and when your GF is on the rag.
It's like trusted computing. It is you they do not trust, and it is their "safety" they will preserve. By safety they probably mean reduced rework when people disable an Android misfeature.
