Maybe I'm biased. Goats are cool on their own. I don't need to comment just upvote. They're fun to watch when they're kids. But what breed of dog is that? I need a protector on my farm and that dog looks like my next buddy. Samoyed and St. Bernard?. Don't answer if it's too close to home. I've been researching dogs for a while. That's a good bitch lol. I need a thumper because of all the stray cats and dogs.

Great Pyrenees. You need good ones, though. Don't get one from someone who's selling them backyard (and not exposed to livestock) prices, they'll end up being a night mare. Also, don't get Anatolian shepherd or a cross of the pyre with one if you have birds in the yard. Anatolian are known to feed themselves, if you know what I mean.

We "adopted" two others that were ten months when we got them from someone who got into and out of the sheep keeping in the same year, wasn't for them and the dogs were bored. One isn't quite right, even has a facial skeletal difference that to me indicates she's not good stock. The other seems to do well when only with our original dog, but easily slips into bad behavior around her sister that she grew up with. I'm at a loss on whether to keep the crappy one or wait it out to see if she will improve.

Our original dog is so great with the does when they deliver. She will very intently lick the kids faces to make sure the birthing fluid is clear for them to breathe, and get them cleaned up while mom finishes delivering. By the time she's done the babies are fluffy and ready to nurse. She also cleans up the mom and after birth, which keeps predators and flies down. I am particularly glad she does it because it's really unsightly for a bloody tail on a white tailed goat for a long time. She also keeps the other guardians away, and the chickens if they get curious. It's really fascinating to watch how she determines correctly who is ok to come say hello to the new babies. And the kids become best friends with her, snuggling when mom is off eating.

She's worth her weight in gold. I hope the other two will come around.
