In Glamis California, they had a beautiful desert flower that needed to be "protected" so the blm shut down much of where the "endangered" desert flower was found.
Except with no insects, the flower was propagating from the dune buggys and bikes running it over.
No more flowers.
In laguna Beach California, the endangered gnatcatcher was the reason for the no burn policy, so after 20 years when lightning struck, it went up quick enough and fast enough that the gnatcatcher was wiped out.
There are many houses there instead now, so maybe that was the plan all along.
