Surely there are safer, cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternatives to hydrocarbon fuels, right?

See, isn't that much better?

It's all a grift. If it wasn't we'd be switching to nuclear power on a crash basis, and there wouldn't be any issues with electric cars.

ah yes, nuclear power, the thing that is so safe you have to bury the waste for 10,000 years.

basically the energy equivalent of hiding that youve been cheating on your missus by stuffing your girlfriend in the closet and hoping your wife doesnt go in there.

That's actually pretty fucking neat.

Burning the fuel is more environmentally friendly than letting it loose. Back when Iraq started dumping oil into the sea off Kuwait, the US used fire to reduce the impact of the disaster there.

Lol, that one boat, "Hey guys, lets pour more water on it, that will fix it!"

I think they're keeping the oil from spreading

Just some gas leak, not oil or gasoline and it looks really neat on fire.

what, a legal framework to shift blame for shit maintenance from the local maintenance staff and admin to the parent company on another continent?

yeah i remember all the blame going to BP for shitty construction and maintenance work in the gulf of mexico...
