Boomers didn't have to overcome shit. They were handed the incredible wealth of the post-war Western world and proceeded to squander it all. All a Boomer had to do to "make it" was pass HS and show up for his factory job with a pension. That was it. No other generation has ever had it this easy. Their own fathers and grandfathers had to fight in brutal global wars and live through mass economic depression. Boomers are a damned joke.
Yeah, I know all of that, we all do. Did you see where I put "overcome" in quotes...?
I guess, once you get past the anger involved with being this thoroughly let down, you find yourself asking "how" and "why"...and that's what I was getting at.
In their minds, they DID overcome what they had to. The fact that they collectively seemed to have ignored the subsequent long term suffering of following generations, to my mind, borders on a sort of mass, generation wide hypnosis...basically making them the generational equivalent of the meme with the cat in a burning room going "this is fine", but in our case their own children and grandchildren were burning in the flames too.
OK, I will agree with that. They do seem to be in a fog, of sorts. The 2008 crash that destroyed their retirement savings really broke a bunch of them since they had been on basically an unbroken string of wins since they were born.
