It's not an impact crater. An asteroid flew through the atmosphere and left debris over a 1,243 mile area. Still bad if you are in the area, but a 1,243 mile diameter crater 400k years ago would have incinerated the surface of the earth and killed all higher life.

I agree with you, but it does sound like it was an impact with a 2,000Km-wide ejecta blanket rather than a strewn field. The impact was significant' but probably far from extinction-level significant. Those ejecta particles are quite small so it was more likely they were carried by the wind instead of a normal ejecta process on a body with no atmosphere.
