I grew up poor, we had a b/w TV.

Lol, same here. My very first introduction to a color tv and show was at my grandma's house watching Doctor Who (with Jon Pertwee) - good times, i was just amazed and flabbergasted.

My aunt and uncle near the city had color, but there was usually a game on when we visited them. We were limited to 4 OTA channels out in the sticks, no cable available until the mid-80s where I grew up ,IIRC. I mostly heard Elton's music on the radio in the 1970s but never saw much him on TV until years later.
