I wouldn't mind trading the seeds for a cow though. Beef has gotten very expensive.

Wow! Amazing 👍

I notice you didn't have to use any purports with yours. My garden is right next to my driveway and I've come home before to my sunflowers laying across my driveway after a storm. The flowers get so heavy its amazing you don't have any staking!

[–] 0 pt

I think they're just beginning to get top heavy I have stakes set aside if they begin to lean. They are kinda protected from wind by my home on 2 sides, and large tree on the 3rd.

Those big leaves spaced far apart says they're looking for light. Are they getting at least 6 hours of direct sunlight every day?

[–] 0 pt

I think so but there is a big tree about 20ft away.

[–] 1 pt

It looks like the north side of a house with some shade from large trees. Those kind of conditions can cause plants to grow very tall looking for light.

[–] 0 pt

Its the Southside. The tree and house do block alot of light.

nice.

fucking deer and birds get mine every fucking year.

[–] 0 pt

Deer got mine until I built a 10ft pig and barbed wire fence and replanted.

[–] 1 pt

A lot of mine are in my front in planter boxes. might try and put some chicken wire around them. Problem is that it looks like shit after that.

[–] 0 pt

We put up hogwire sheet metal along the bottom and 4 or 5 lines of barbwire above

Nice Work

one are the seeds edible? two how would you harvest them either for ornamental purposes or edible ones?

[–] 1 pt

Yes edible, you wait for the yellow leaves to fall off . Then I let it dry out for a few days then take them out. Some people hang them upside down in a shopping bag and seeds fall out. Then you wash them salt them, and bake them.

[–] 0 pt

How have you never had sunflower seeds before?

[–] 0 pt

well yes but not all varieties of specific types of plants are edible. im sure there are none edible sunflower seeds

[–] 1 pt

tall as my roof

from that camera angle it looks that way, yes.

PS: fuck you, I tried to grow sunflowers several times, they...did not grow.

Add water stupid.

[–] 0 pt

what is water stupid

Electrolytes plants crave!!! Duhhhhh.

[–] 1 pt

About 4.5 feet tall with heads the size of small plates here this year. Huge seed yield, check into commercial seed source for the larger producing heads. Giant, they are called,324 acres is a pretty sight for sure

I have only about 10 in my yard, but I have over 600 - 800 on my farm. Going to make oil out of them for farm equipment.

[–] 1 pt

Cool! I've wondered about extracting oil from sunflowers. How much do you get from the 600-800? How long does it take to extract it?

[–] 0 pt

I don't do any of that part but I will ask.

[–] 1 pt

Like growing WD40? I hope you choose better lubrication over seed oil LOL.

[–] 0 pt

I will be eating the seeds, my hubby makes the oil, he does it every year. Oh and if you eat the stalk before it blooms, it tastes like asparagus.

[–] 1 pt

Damn impressive! My wife's only got up to about 7 feet last year.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

My son is 6 ft tall and it's about double his size.
