I want to give it a try but I don't want to waste my time. Asparagus takes a couple years before it starts producing i think a container would be a good option so they can be easily moved if need be. I know from growing other things in containers they won't do as well as if they where planted in the dirt. Will they produce anything worthwhile though. I have a plastic 30 gallon drum.

Asparagus is a heavy feeder.

Adding compost and a good organic nitrogen source to the soil mix would be necessary every year.

Also, if possible, start with roots or crowns rather than from seed. You'll get good harvests a year sooner. But let the plant get established first. Don't harvest any spears in season one.
