Don't forget to eat some fried green tomatoes. Salt, pepper, flour, and cornmeal. Dip slices in beaten egg and shake. Fry medium heat in a cast iron skillet. Sooooo good.

Awesome! Some of our tomatoes are really taking off, too! Some aren't... but most are. Our neighbor already made us a pie from some of our blackberries she picked. The raspberries are almost ripe. Everything is very pretty, but the food crops grow so slow!

That was nice of her.
I need to grab some blackberry clippings from my parents to get some started here.

This is the only one that's got something going yet. The strawberries have flowers though and I saw buds on the red pepper plant today.

I was kind of a little bit annoyed at the wife letting our neighbors pick loads of our berries, but she's way nicer than me and it pays off IN PIE! I didn't get to stay annoyed for very long! And there are still plenty of berries for everybody - these are the best nasty weeds ever to have growing all over a fence; CLIMB THAT, you miscreants!

I planted them by accident by spitting a seed into a pot one time... now we have TONS of them and have to cut them back pretty aggressively from certain spots periodically, because they really are kind of weeds; they're just DELICIOUS weeds!

Oddly, the raspberries are far better behaved and mostly stay in their spot, possibly just due to our southern climate making them less happy than they'd be further North.

I saw some strawberry blossoms, too, but they tease us like that sometimes! Something keeps eating the leaves of our pepper plants, so they all look pretty sad. And we never ever get any of our passionfruits because the stupid squirrels always eat them well before they're ripe. Anyway, I went out last night to keep an eye on miscreants making noise on the street, and was pretty impressed with just how PRETTY the garden is; it's a real oasis and is clearly good the soul.

that's so funny that you planted the blackberries by accident.

some kind of bug is eating my lemon balm, I'm going to spray them with soapy water to try to kill them I think.

Upvote for not posting an upside-down picture! (@pmyb2, yeah I'm looking at you)

PS: Congrats with your new garden :)

I share your excitement, my Cherry Tomato bush popped up on its own and just keeps on giving.

I tried growing tomatoes once. Tipsy Turvey. I think I got 10 tomatoes after months of effort. Then I saw them on the vine for like 22 cents each at the store. Was the last time I tried growing tomatoes.
