a deep one attacked the mountain vault. half the team shot it, while the other half hacked it to death with knives and axes. the deep one got thrown into the garbage heap, but the cold of winter has frozen the body solid. unfortunately, deep one meat is not edible, so even rats that come to feed on bodies we have to hunt for food if the vault wants to live through winter.

in retrospect, dead bodies being left at the map edge for us to found, with no sign of a killer, was a dark omen beforehand.

a young oracle who joined us lately lost her sanity, went for a walk, and accidentally entered into the sealed insect cave. she's dead now. its too dangerous to recover the body, or her dropped weapon (an excellent pistol to be exact). whole cave system is a no-mans land of giant bugs, until we have enough guns, fire and people to clear them out.

a colonist that's been armed as a useful meelee builder type of job, lost a fuckton of sanity from the deep one, and some odd otherworldly mist filed with invisible presences of nothing. she tried to murder someone out of stress, but got her ass kicked, despite being armed with a wood axe and having the most body armor out of everyone. thankfully no one died.

the most stable person right now in the colony is an ancient, bald, dementia-ridden chief armed with a recurve bow. somehow his constant forgetting must be shielding him from deep cosmic horror.

also, minor note, in the southwest, giant spiders moved in and began laying webs (and presumably eggs). they're probably going to be an issue for later, but even so given them and the cold, the colonists are to being told to keep close to the vault at all times.

more updates to come if the colony survives the horrifying first winter
